Scott D. Burge, O.D., an optometrist, joined Maryland Eye Associates in 1993. Originally licensed in 1979, Dr. Burge has over 33 years of experience providing primary eye care which includes prescriptions for eyeglasses and contact lenses, preoperative consultations, as well as low vision optical aids for partially sighted patients. His professional degree is from the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, CA. He graduated in 1979 as Doctor of Optometry and immediately obtained State Board licenses to practice in Maryland, Virginia, New York and California. His undergraduate degree is from Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, PA where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 1975. His early years of practice included providing primary eye care to elderly patients in nursing homes as well as gaining experience in traditional private practice prescribing eyeglasses and contact lenses. In 1982, Dr. Burge opened his own practice in McLean, VA. He soon developed an extensive contact lens practice. He currently continues to see patients in McLean at the highly regarded Village Eye Center. In 1993, Dr. Burge joined Maryland Eye Associates, becoming the contact lens specialist for the practice in the Annapolis and Upper Marlboro locations. Dr. Burge has developed a close working relationship with the ophthalmologists of Maryland Eye Associates. He sees patients with a range of needs from glasses prescriptions to complete contact lens problems, as well as those needing low vision optical aids for macular degeneration vision loss. With over 20 years of experience as an associates of Maryland Eye Associates’ medical eye care team, Dr. Burge has extensive experience with specialized contact lens prescriptions for gas permeable (rigid/hard), toric (astigmatism), and high prescription soft lenses. He routinely sees patients for complex problems which include keratoconus, corneal graft (transplant), corneal degeneration and irregular cornea. He continues to provide low vision optical aid consultations for patients diagnosed with macular degeneration. Dr. Burge currently sees Maryland Eye Associates patients in the Annapolis and Prince Frederick offices.
Dr. Burge lives in Annapolis, MD with his wife, Beverly. They have been married for over 38 years and enjoy sailing the Chesapeake Bay on the Shannon 38 Ketch “Beverly Dawn.”
