October 16, 2023

Are your glasses scratched? Is it time to find a new pair that suits your unique style?

Picking out a pair of glasses can be fun, but it can also be tricky, especially if you've never been satisfied with how you look when you wear them. If you feel like you've never looked right in glasses, it may be because you're not wearing frames that suit your facial features.

The shape of your glasses can make your face look different. If you need a new pair of glasses, it's essential to consider the shape of your face to ensure you pick out the right ones. Keep reading to find out if you wear glasses that fit your face!

Choose the Glasses You Like the Best

Looking for glasses that suit the shape of your face is a great place to start when you're picking out glasses, especially if you struggle to find frames that accentuate your features when you wear glasses. Part of the trick to finding glasses that suit you is knowing your face shape.

You must also understand which frames best suit each face shape. Although there are recommendations you can follow to find glasses that fit your face shape, that doesn't mean you won't find other glasses that suit you.

These are not meant to be strict rules to follow but merely recommendations. If you find a pair of glasses that make you feel fabulous, go for them!

It doesn't matter if they're the "wrong" shape for your face. This is only meant as a guide to help you find the best glasses.

Figuring out your face shape and looking for frames that work with that face shape is an excellent way to find glasses that fit you well. But, ultimately, you should choose glasses that make you feel your best.

These guidelines are a great way to start narrowing down your choices if you don't know which glasses look good on you.

Square

If you have a square face, your forehead, cheekbones, and jawlines are all the same width. With square faces, you can use two options to complement these features.

One, you can make the squareness of the face look softer, or two, you can emphasize its angles for a more masculine appearance. Avoid rectangular glasses and go for round or cat eye frames for a softer look.

Avoid small frames and browline or rectangular glasses for the angular look. Leaning into either of these will help complement the features of having a square face.

Round

If you have a round face, the widest part of your face is your cheekbones, and your forehead and jawline are smaller. Large, bold styles work well for round faces to make your face appear smaller and your eyes look bigger.

Rectangular and square frames can also offset the roundness of your face. But aviator glasses and, ironically,  large round glasses can also have this effect.

If you want your face to appear smaller and less round, avoid small, oval, and browline glasses. Doing this will help make your face look smaller while bringing less attention to the roundness of your face.

Oval

An oval face is a cross between a round face and a square face. You have an oval face if your face has wider cheekbones and your face is taller than it is wide.

Most styles of glasses suit oval features well. But if you want to soften your features and add more structure to your face, you should avoid oversized glasses.

The best frames for an oval face are typically rectangular, square, browline, and aviator glasses.

Diamond

If you have a diamond face, you have high cheekbones, a slightly narrow jawline, and a more pointed chin and hairline. With this face shape, you can soften and balance your facial features with your glasses by avoiding square or rectangular frames.

If you want a bold look, go for round frames, oval frames, cat eye frames, or browline glasses. Having a diamond face shape allows you to be more daring with your glasses choices.

Pear

You have a pear face if your jawline is wider than your hairline. This unique face shape may feel particularly difficult to pair with glasses. However, some frames compliment pear faces perfectly.

Glasses that hit the browline and aviator glasses do a great job of balancing out a pear-shaped face. Of course, you can also find other options that look good.

But you may have a better time finding ideal frames for a pear-shaped face by avoiding frames that are totally round or completely square or rectangular glasses.

Heart

Most people with a heart-shaped face have a widow's peak hairline. If your face is heart-shaped, your forehead is also wider than your jawline, and your cheekbones are wider than your forehead.

Your facial appearance will likely look softer if you have a heart-shaped face. You can emphasize this softness with round frames.

But if you want your face to look more balanced, you can help by wearing rectangular frames and frames with bold geometric shapes. Do your best to avoid square glasses, browlines, and oval glasses to ensure your face looks more balanced and less soft.

Of course, if you don't like wearing glasses, you can always opt for contact lenses. With contact lenses, you won't have to worry about anyone being able to visibly see how you're improving your vision.

If contact lenses don't work for you, you can undergo a vision correction procedure like LASIK. When you choose LASIK, you can experience life without visual aids.

You can also have better vision than ever before, making it worth considering if you want other options. Ready to find a great new pair of glasses or explore other options?
